I went along a gentle Cardiganshire valley yesterday, one which I first saw in the early 1950s. I remembered the folk who lived there in those times; folk who passed on long ago. They were gentle, hard-working people, with pre-telly, innocent attitudes to life.
Perhaps it would have been one of the “remote places” which used to be mentioned in the Queen’s Christmas Broadcasts.
I knew the people in every house. And those houses are lived-in now: mainly by incomers. The folk I once knew are mostly forgotten, their ways gone.
There are few, so very few, of us now who remember those times and those people.
